Students will find that most campuses can provide them with a list of accommodations available within the community. This list may offer information on different types of housing available. Campuses do not have student residences. You can find more information on our website, at http://nbcc.ca/current-students/student-services/housing.
Your first week at NBCC will be an exciting one with social, recreational, cultural, and educational activities designed to help you adjust to college life and get to know the surrounding community. Orientation activities vary at each NBCC campus and may include social gatherings, sports competitions, and study skills seminars.
Colleges help to ensure that NBCC students have the necessary job search skills to make the transition from an educational environment to the work force by providing you with information about the labour market, assisting in using job search techniques, helping with resum? and cover letter preparation, and provide opportunities for you and other students to interact with employers.
NBCC is home to a variety of intramural and intercollegiate sports from hockey and basketball to curling and ultimate Frisbee. If your sport isn't organized, we'll even help you set it up. You can book gym time to play badminton, volleyball, or even dodgeball. Some campuses employ an Athletics and Recreation Coordinator who coordinates recreational gym time, and intramural and inter-collegiate sports activities.
Students at each campus elect a student council or association, which plans and coordinates recreational activities and other services for students. Funded through the collection of student fees at registration, the Local Campus Union plans activities for students with all interests including athletic, social, and cultural events. Some colleges employ an Athletics and Recreation Coordinator who coordinates recreational gym time, and intramural and inter-collegiate sports activities. Participating in student government and activities is a great way to make new friends at your own campus and also meet fellow students in other campuses around the province at some of the inter-campus events that take place during the academic year.
In addition to intramurals and intercollegiate sports, we have clubs such as yoga, art, gaming, dance, and drama. At NBCC, the only limit to the possibilities is our imagination. Social activities ensure that you interact with your classmates and become more comfortable and confident in your studies.
All campuses have wifi access.
Students have access to cultural activities both on-campus and in the community.
Our goal is to help ensure that each student, regardless of disabilities or special needs, has the opportunity to access appropriate and viable training opportunities. Some NBCC campuses offer a day care service to enable students with children to attend classes and complete their post-secondary education. Other campuses provide information so you can access this service within the community.
There may be opportunity to "buddy" with an international student at your campus, to take part in cross-cultural training, or to work or study in another country. In recent years, NBCC students and graduates have had work internships and study experiences in Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Costa Rica, India, Ireland, France, Guadeloupe, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Haïti.
