Profile

At Emily Carr University, you're not just a student, you're a part of something greater. A tight-knit community of artists, designers and culture shapers awaits you.

Step into our supportive environment where you'll hone the skills necessary for design, creation, and innovation. But beyond learning how to create, you’ll learn why you create. At ECU, you’ll learn how to channel your talents to make a difference - within your community, your industry or the world at large. There’s no limits to what you’ll create here.

Areas of Expertise

Emily Carr has four faculties and two areas that deliver academic programs, including eleven undergraduate degrees, two graduate degrees, a jointly offered Master of Digital Media, and year-round certificates, programs and classes for lifelong creative study delivered from various locations.

Incoming Students

Orientation week takes place at the beginning of September before classes begin. Specialised events for Creative Art Pathway, transfer and international students are held. You will be notified by email when details are available.

Career Planning

The Career Development + Work Integrated Learning Office connects students and alumni with employers and opportunities in the creative industries and beyond. We offer career programming, clinics and strategy sessions, drop-in and individual career advising, work integrated learning, internships and partnerships, as well as access to The Leeway, Emily Carr's internal career and alumni mentorship site.

Activities

The ECU Students' Union hosts events, clubs, and activities throughout the year.

Special Services

In addition to personal counselling, a range of wellness programming is offered to students to reduce stress, and promote and enhance students’ success and well-being along seven dimensions of wellness: emotional, psychological, physical, financial, environmental, cultural and social.

International Involvement

Participation in the exchange program is an opportunity to enrich and diversify your education. The experience of travel, exposure to different cultural and educational settings, and to other teachers and students of art and design can contribute greatly to one’s growth as an artist. ECU participates in the Student Exchange/Mobility Program and has exchange agreements with numerous art and design schools globally.
