Profile

As a young and dynamic university with a wide range of Arts, Science, Professional and Graduate level programs, we get excited about delivering one of the finest post-secondary experiences in the country. Nipissing is a primarily undergraduate university located on an impressive 720 acres of natural Canadian Shield forest on the traditional territory of Nipissing First Nation, and within lands protected by the Robinson-Huron treaty of 1850. The city of North Bay, Ontario, is an easy 3.5 hour drive north of Toronto and 4 hours west of Ottawa. Our focus is on student success, which is assisted by an inclusive community culture, an average class size of 29 students, and by offering ample opportunities beyond traditional classroom learning for students to roll up their sleeves and learn by doing.

Nipissing is among the highest ranked in the category of quality of teaching and learning. We offer programs within the faculties of Arts and Science, Applied and Professional Studies, and the Schulich School of Education. Research excellence has increasingly become a priority for the University and, as a result, Nipissing has grown its research culture significantly over the past decade. Nipissing University is attracting tri-council funding, research grants, industry funding, as well as growing an impressive publication record. As a regional institution, Nipissing has a long history of creating access to education, especially for students from northern communities, and Indigenous, first generation, and international learners.

Areas of Expertise

Nipissing University has earned a solid reputation for providing an exceptional student experience in all of our Arts, Science, Professional and Graduate level programs. Most widely known for our longest standing legacy, the Schulich School of Education is recognized as a leader in the field of education and offers Bachelor of Education Concurrent and Consecutive programs that are second to none. Although Nipissing has a rich history connected to over 100 years of teacher education, we are a diverse, undergraduate focused university with a wide range of programs. Students can earn degrees and explore courses in a wide variety of disciplines from traditional fields such as Math or English, they can explore innovative fields such as Computer Science or Gender Equality and Social Justice, or they can work towards their professional designation in programs like Nursing or Social Work.

Above all else we are experts in student support and experience.

Nipissing is consistently ranked top in the province and country for our student support services, residence life services and experience, as well as overall student experience. We're a small university, but that gives all of our students big opportunities. They receive more individualized education and opportunities that open a number of doors to pursue success in their future goals. We understand that every student is unique and we work to support you so you can get what you need out of your university education and experience.

At Nipissing University students will get the true Canadian experience. We are surrounded by the beauty of Canadian lakes and forests. We have warm sunny summers, and beautiful snowy winters.
