Ambulance attendants and paramedics provide emergency medical care and transport patients to medical facilities.
These workers perform some or all of the following duties:
Assess and administer pre-hospital emergency care to trauma, illness or accident victims, which may include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), oxygen, bandaging, and splinting;
Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) and ventilation treatments, and administer medications as well as other advanced emergency treatments to patients;
Transport patients by air, land or water to a medical facility;
Document and record injuries and treatment provided;
Assist hospital personnel with treatment if necessary, and may assist with triage of emergency patients;
Maintain ambulances and emergency care equipment/supplies.
