Career Description

Nurse aides and orderlies assist nurses, physicians and other health care workers in the basic care of patients, and transport patients in wheelchairs and on stretchers for treatment or surgery.

Duties May Include

Nurse Aides, Orderlies, and Patient Service Associates:

Assist nurses, hospital staff, and physicians in the care of patients

Supervise patients' exercise routines, set-up and provide leisure activities, and accompany patients during recreational activities

Take and record blood pressure, temperature, and pulse readings; monitor and record patients' intake and output status; collect specimens; and administer nurse-directed procedures, such as enemas and suppositories

Transport patients in wheelchair or stretcher

Maintain inventories, patients' rooms, and may assist in the set-up and maintenance of equipment.
